An introduction to East-West Seed in Cambodia
East-West Seed has been active in Cambodia since 2009. East-West Seed registered as a commercial operation in early 2016; becoming one of the first companies to register a diverse portfolio of vegetable seeds with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
With 35 years of experience operating in emerging markets, East-West Seed is well positioned to bring valuable inputs into national level dialogue on vegetable sector development in Cambodia.
Supported by a dedicated sales team, our seed distribution is rapidly expanding to cover all provinces in Cambodia. To assure that we provide the best opportunities for smallholder farmers, all of our varieties are carefully selected to specifically cater to the country's agronomic conditions, as well as market preferences. We supply a wide range of vegetable crops; focused on the needs of smallholder farmers growing vegetables for the local markets. We believe that widespread access to high-quality seed will be a major contributing factor towards increasing the competitiveness of the Cambodian vegetable sector, which for a long time has been dominated by Vietnamese imports.
Knowledge transfer activities in Cambodia
The use of high-quality seed alongside improved farm practices is widely acknowledged as being the starting point for more profitable and sustainable production systems. Seed specifically adapted to local agronomic conditions typically benefits farmers with greater vigor, higher yields, and better tolerance to particular diseases. In addition, the marketable qualities of improved varieties, enables farmers to better align their production towards the demands of traders and consumers. This supports their integration into Cambodia's rapidly modernizing markets.
Our company's knowledge transfer services enable farmers to achieve the best results through promoting more profitable and sustainable cultivation practices. Sharing knowledge has become an integral part of East-West Seed operation in Cambodia since 2009.
Starting in Siem Reap, our knowledge transfer activities have since spread to other provinces including Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kandal, Battambang, Stung Treng, Kratie and Banteay Meanchey. To increase our impact, East-West Seed cooperates with like-minded organizations promoting rural economic development through market-based solutions.
